Those cameras have great lenses, and an amazing auto-exposure system, even though it's just an old selenium cell, not even through the lens. Without the battery, the camera only shoots at a single, default shutter speed. I don't know what this is off-hand. I just removed the battery from mine to test the bulb setting, and it did not work. Just FYI - I don't use the bulb setting, I just use the auto exposure setting.
